Borscht Belt Partners With Shir Ami To Offer On
NEWTOWN, PA — Newtown’s Borscht Belt Delicatessen will begin providing on-site and off-premise catering for both congregants of Shir Ami Synagogue located at 101 Richboro-Newtown Road in Newtown and individuals and businesses within 30-miles of Newtown.
The two institutions have joined forces just in time for the Jewish high holidays, which fall on Sept. 15-17 (Rosh Hashanah) and September 24-25 (Yom Kippur), to offer the new service.
The Borscht Belt’s chef/partner Nick Liberato said kosher style will be observed on premise. All other items will be prepared in The Borscht Belt’s Newtown kitchen. The business will be able to accommodate groups of up to 4,000 people, and catering orders can be dropped off via a refrigerated van to up to a 30-mile radius of Newtown.
Both Liberato and business partner Mike Dalewitz are members of the Shir Ami congregation, and the two partners were first introduced there, “so it seemed only fitting to expand our offerings to our friends and family at the synagogue,” they said.
In addition, a portion of all catering profits will go to support Shir Ami programs.
“We welcome The Borscht Belt into our kitchen with open arms, and our congregation is absolutely kvelling," said Phil Nordlinger, executive director of Shir Ami.
Chef Liberato and Dalewitz are also launching 618 Hospitality Group’s full service event and catering division for weddings, mitzvahs, corporate functions and other celebrations.
The menu will be developed by Chef Liberato who has overseen two Michelin star kitchens and was a highly sought after caterer to the stars in Los Angeles before returning to his Bucks County roots to open The Borscht Belt in 2021.
Shir Ami is the hub of Reform Judaism in Bucks County. Founded in 1976, the Newtown temple continues to offer the only mikveh at a Reform shul in the Philadelphia area. Learn more about Shir Ami by visiting https://www.shirami.org.
The Borscht Belt Delicatessen, located at 2124 S Eagle Rd. in Newtown, is a New York-style deli concept — a love letter to the Jewish Deli — launched by 618 Hospitality Group founders Liberato and Dalewitz. With an array of take-out, dine-in, and large-format catering options, this re-imagined delicatessen salutes a bygone period that has long needed a home to remind us how food, family, and friends were once served and how they can be again.
