RESTON, VA — Residents along Lake Anne's shores in Reston can expect to they hear the sounds of music skimming across the water Saturday afternoon from the third annual Mykle Lyons Commemorative Concert and Jazz Festival.

Lake Anne & Washington Plaza Merchant Association is teaming up with Roxplosion and Kalypso's Sports Tavern to host the free event, which will take place from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., rain or shine, at Lake Anne Plaza located at 1609 Washington Plaza in Reston.

Featured performers on Saturday will be:

The inclusion of Colin Surabian and the Original Trio in the festival is a fitting tribute to Lyons, who, like them, came from Reston.

The festival and concert commemorates Lyons, who studied with Jazz great Ellis Marsalis as a student at Virginia Commonwealth University.

An accomplished musician, Lyons went on to perform with such musical luminaries as Wynton, Ellis, Branford, Delfeayo, and Jason Marsalis; Don Braden; Lew Tabacken; Ralph Bowen; Vincent Herring; Wes Anderson; Eric Alexander; Victor Goines; and Loston Harris II.

In addition, The Mykle Lyons Quartet was a featured act at both the 1992 and 1996 Presidential Galas and Lyons frequently performed for former Vice President Al Gore.

To further honor Lyons' memory, LAWPA, Kalypso’s and Roxplosion have set up a memorial scholarship fund. Tax-deductible scholarship donations are going to the Friends of Music at George Mason to benefit a jazz student at George Mason University.

Those wishing to donate to the fund should make out checks to the George Mason Foundation and write "In memory of Mykle Lyons" in the memo line. Mail the donation to: GMU-CVPA Development Office, Friends of Music, 4400 University Drive, MS 4C1, Fairfax, VA 22030.
