No. 15 Walsh Jesuit clamps down on McDowell in 49

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Keller Moten ran for two touchdowns and passed for two others Friday and the Walsh Jesuit defense pitched a shutout in the second half, allowing the host Warriors to come from behind to take down Erie (PA) McDowell, 49-28.

Moten completed 10 of 14 passes, including TDs of 54 yards to Aiden Henry and 14 yards to John Keough as Walsh Jesuit, ranked No. 15 in the cleveland.com Top 25, upped its record to 2-0. Moten’s TD runs covered 14 and 13 yards, and both came on quarterback draw plays. Brock Sherman led the Warriors with 192 yards and two scores on 24 carries. He scored on runs of 9 and 40 yards and also added a two-point conversion run early in the third quarter.

Last year in a game played at McDowell, the hosts rang up 56 points on the way to a 56-37 victory. It appeared another high-scoring affair was in the offing as McDowell held a 28-20 halftime lead, but the Walsh Jesuit defense stiffened in the second half, including an interception by Dylan Hereford, which led to the game’s final touchdown.
